the unit of iceland currency is krona (ISK). according to my travel book, the exchange rate in 2001 is 1 usd = 71 isk, now it is like 1 usd = 114 isk. therefore, it is much cheaper to arrange to icelandic trip this year.

reykjavik city tour

we went back from akureyri to reykjavik. we passed reykjavik twice but didnt have time for city tour. we did it at the end. at that moment, there was a big conference there, the hotels were very full.

landmark of the city is the church. the lake should be beautiful but under cloudy weather, i couldnt take a nice photo.

the good thing is i can see the rainbow near bus station.

grimsey island

this is the iceland's only arctic island. we went there by ferry. inside the fjord, it is very stable but when the ship sailed into the arctic ocean, the waves were very rough. some passengers did vomit.

this island is small but very beautiful. i can see the bird flying and pass through the arctic circle line to enter north pole. there is a hotel there. the shopkeeper is very kind. walking on the island is very comfortable. i enjoy it very much.

we moved on from the power plant to this region. it is known as the thinnest part on earth where u can really feel the geo-thermal under your feet. in some parts, i can see the boiling mud.

on the other side of the mountain, there is another blue lagoon which is similar to the one near reykjavik but much smaller in size.

this is on the top of the mountain where we can see the volcano lake and also the power station. this volcano lake is different from the lake we saw in golden circle as it is higher and colder so i cant find any mosquitos.

in this part of the myvatn tour, we saw many volcano related things, we saw the volcano itself, we saw the meeting point of europe and america continents similar to golden circle area. the rocks formed by volcanos are very beautiful.

we joined the local tour in akureyri to myvatn region. godafoss is another great waterfall. i saw gullfoss in golden circle before so the feeling is not very exciting then. i cant remember, maybe this is the largest waterfall in iceland.

we lived in a lovely guesthouse run by a old lady. remember the days when we shared the kitchen with a french family, the experiences were pleasant. again, there is nothing to see inside the town. we just used it as base to see the sightseeing spots nearby.

after visiting the ice worlds around hofn, we left hofn on the next day for akureyri by bus. this is a long trip and we passed several small icelandic towns whose houses are very beautiful.

jokulsarlon glacier lagoon

this ice lake is very beautiful. it is the evidence of global warming. before that, there was no lake in this region. only glacier or ice could be found here before. after global warming, some ice parts melted and formed this lagoon. we took the boat trip inside it and saw a seal. that was my first time seeing seal outside ocean park.

we joined the local tour in hofn and visited this glacier which is the largest one in europe. after climbing to the mountain, we tried the high speed motorbike on snow surface which was an exciting experience. there is a restaurant on the hill providing buffet lunch.

the town is very small. there is nothing to see inside. i just upload some hotel, tourist information centre and supermarket photos. we used it as base to visit the glacier nearby

after spending 3 days in greenland, we returned to iceland and went from reykjavik to hofn by bus. the road trip is very beautiful and we passed a lovely town with a nice church.

europe and north america are 2 tectonic continental plates. they meet each other under atlantic ocean. iceland is one point of the meeting line. in this park, i feel very excited as i can see the meeting point of 2 continents directly despite i still cant tell which is european side or which is american side.

this is a very large and beautiful waterfall. iceland is famous for many waterfalls but this is one of the most famous.

this is the 2nd exciting part of the local tour. water underground heated by geo-thermal energy and comes out in high speed. it happens periodically and i can see one episode.

after enjoying the blue lagoon hotspring, we took bus to reykjavik and lived in this lovely guesthouse.

it is one of the most sightseeing spots in iceland. luckily, it is very close to the airport.

in 2006, after leaving the airport, we went there at once for a hotspring bath before checking-in for the hotel.

i remember the cold feeling was very strong when walking from changing room to the pool

iceland and hk have no direct flights, therefore, we have to change flights during the icelandic trips.

we went there in 2006 and made a stop in london when changing the plane.

金美斯島

Many people go to Iceland for these birds. There are bird cliffs on Grimsey. This tiny island with an area of 5 sq km is the northmost community of Iceland. It lies in the Arctic Circle, surrounded by Arctic and Atlantic Oceans. There is a huge nesting populations of sea birds. It is basically a Puffin colony and nice place for bird watching. It is the Iceland's largest Puffin population. You can see them flying over the sea and a area of grassland. Only 100 people live in this island but there are 36 species of birds.

冰岛国际机场位于首都维祖域东面的郊区，有机场巴士连接市区。

BLUE LAGOON
位于冰岛国际机场南方的郊外，有机场巴士经过。温泉水收集成的蓝色人工湖，观察外表非常美丽，泡进泉水也非常舒服。

GUESTHOUSE SNORRA
别墅式的旅馆，房间有独立浴厕，也有厨房供顾客自行煮食之用。

BUS TERMINAL
冰岛没有铁路，巴士是非常重要的交通工具。维祖域巴士总站有巴士去全国各地包括荷芬和阿富耶里。

GOLDEN CIRCLE
维祖域位于火山活跃带，附近有丰富的自然景色如火山，瀑布，喷泉和峡谷，可以参加当地旅行团，一网打尽。

DOMESTIC AIRPORT
维祖域国内线机场位于市区内，去冰岛其他城市可在此出发。不过有一个现象很有趣。格陵兰是丹麦位于北美的领土，不属于冰岛。但是去格陵兰的班机却是在这个国内线机场起飞。

大教堂是维加域的地标，高七十三米，可容纳一千二百人同时进行宗教仪式。

摄影爱好者一定喜欢的景点。湖里的水鸟和湖畔的房屋已经是很好的素材。再加上它们在湖中的倒影，如果天气好的话，绝对可以谋杀不少菲林。
